Creative Writing Award For The Day

From commenter antiprop1 on a thread at Huffington Post debating nuclear disarmament:
Once Oppenheimer opened Pandora's box, the cat was out of the bag.
Hmm... post-Schrödinger, I thought that... dead or alive... the cat was in the box...

  1. Wow now that's not so much a mixed metaphor but a mangled metaphor!

  2. What happened to clarity of thought? Have misfortunes been release, or has something hidden been revealed?

If it were changed along the lines of : 'The cat is out of the bag - Pandora's box has been opened!', it would still be clunky, but would make some sense.

Metaphors are useful for conveying concepts in a condensed form, but you have to know what the concepts are before you use them.
