TOM DELAY CONVICTED!

... of money-laundering and conspiracy to commit money-laundering. He faces up to life in prison for the money-laundering conviction.

Delay is not only the meanest bastard in Texas politics... he's also responsible for the re-re-redistricting of Texas in 2000 that virtually guaranteed a Republican "majority" (for a certain meaning of the term "majority" that does not coincide with the usual mathematical meaning). As to the specifics of his money-laundering of corporate campaign contributions to the GOP, read the linked article. In brief, DeLay "used his political action committee to illegally channel $190,000 in corporate donations into 2002 Texas legislative races through a money swap."

THE MUTHAHFUCKAH'S GOIN' TO JAIL!!!

Yes, of course, he may yet get off on appeal. BUT HE'S GUILTY! GUILTY! GUILTY!

  1. It's the very least of that bastard's crimes, but they NAILED him! Congratulations Texas.

  2. He was so arrogant about it, I can't see a basis for a successful appeal. It was one of the most transparent "money laundering" operations I have ever heard of.

Even a corrupt judge needs something to work with, and DeLay didn't provide it. It's hard to win an appeal against the Travis County DA, as they handle the state-wide corruption cases.

For a money laundering case to be decided this quickly by a jury shows how obvious the situation was.

  3. mandt, Bryan...

mandt - thanks. A lot of us are mighty glad of that!

Bryan - I have learned in recent years not to put any faith in the courts. They can be (and have been) packed, and they've taken a lesson from Scalia's Bush v. Gore decision and learned to take any set of facts and rule however they damned well please. So I'm not as confident DeLay will actually stay convicted. If he gets off, we can all expect to be preached to from morning 'til night.
