Yes, Virginia, There Is Still A HUAC...

... and under Peter King (R-NY), it is going after Muslims. (For the youngsters among you, HUAC = House Un-American Activities Committee, at one time the primary Commie-baiting arm of government.) Seriously. Apparently the unconstitutionality of such an investigation doesn't bother Rep. King at all.

Rep. Mike Honda (R-CA-15), author of the article, himself a Japanese American, is old enough to remember his childhood during W.W. II, when he and his family and "hundreds of thousands of innocent Japanese Americans" were interned in camps. Says Rep. Honda, "The decision to incarcerate, according to a report by the congressionally-mandated Commission on Wartime Relocation and Internment of Civilians, was based on 'race prejudice, war hysteria, and a failure of political leadership.' "

In short, America has been there and done that, within the memory of living Americans, and bears the shame of that act to this very day. Even if investigating Muslim Americans in general accomplished anything... the Muslim Americans I have personally known are every bit as loyal to America as I am, and often have many other admirable qualities such as devotion to their families... it would still be as unconstitutional as hell to investigate them solely because of their religion.

Could someone do all Americans a favor and impeach Rep. King?
