Josh Marshall Sums It Up: ‛Desperate, Ugly & Stupid’

Josh Marshall offers a pungent assessment of the shutdown:
Pressed on what House Republicans want to get out the national government shutdown, Rep. Marlin Stutzman (R-IN) said yesterday: "We're not going to be disrespected. We have to get something out of this. And I don't know what that even is."

We've seen this movie before. And I don't mean the 1995/96 shutdown or the impeachment sequel three years later. This is more like that 70s era made for TV movie.

...
Unlike Marshall himself, I lived through that era. The Seventies were "nasty, brutish, and" not nearly short enough... what good can come of a decade beginning with Richard Nixon as president. So far, that's also a good description of the shutdown, lacking only Nixon.

Oh, and as for Rep. Stutzman's claim... sorry, dude, but you're already disrespected... around the world.
