Rmoney's Closing Argument: Elect Me, Or My Brothers Will Beat You Up

Well, OK, that's not literally what he said. But it might as well have been:
In what his campaign billed as his “closing argument,” Mitt Romney warned Americans that a second term for President Obama would have apocalyptic consequences for the economy in part because his own party would force a debt ceiling disaster.

“Unless we change course, we may well be looking at another recession,” Romney told a crowd in West Allis, Wisconsin.

House Tea Party
Out Of Rmoney's Control
Fuck him. Just fuck him. If he has that much power over his own party, he has it whether in or out of the Oval Office, and he is obligated as an American to spare us the economic disaster. If he has the power to control the House Tea Party (which will very possibly be re-elected, or would have been before Rmoney said this), he is obliged to keep them under control. And if he doesn't have that influence, he has no business running for the presidency.

Can you imagine the late great Lyndon Johnson, who regrettably never ran for a second term, saying to America, "vote for my re-election, or the House Democrats will run rampant over everything"?

We have a lesser breed among those who govern us these days...

UPDATE: Krugman weighs in on "The Blackmail Caucus."

    1. Constance, you may live long enough; I certainly won't.

Obama is not a "profile in courage," but his personal characteristics are not inimical to his displaying courage at some future time. Once in a while he has come close; other times, he has been a disappointment. But it's not impossible that under the worst of circumstances, he might come through. Obama at least does not look down on us.

OTOH, Rmoney is a moral vacuum. He sucks right action up with the air he breathes, and expels it polluted with the worst self-serving amorality one could expect from a person whose stature in life does not oblige him to be good, and who has no other intrinsic motivation to do so. Rmoney is a total loss. I expect nothing of him, and I hope and pray we see the last of him after this election. Considering that it took the Supremes until Dec. 12, 2000 to resolve GeeDubya's 5-to-4 victory, even that may be a painfully long time. But it is important beyond my ability to emphasize that Rmoney not assume any position of real power in America. Ever.

    1. The Mob, indeed, ntodd. And everyone is either in The Family or they're not. Frankly, though, I don't believe the Mafia is quite as inclined to betray its members as the GOP. Mob members hit each other for cause. Rmoney hits other Republicans because it's politically expedient.

  3. Voter-fraud probe in Virginia widens
    http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/voterfraud-probe-in-virginia-widens-8280120.html

"The investigation following the arrest of a man on charges of dumping voter-registration forms last month in Harrisonburg, Virginia, has widened, with state officials probing whether a company tied to top Republican leaders had engaged in voter-registration fraud in the key battleground state, according to two people close to the case..........."

    1. Thanks, Enfant. That article appeared recently in the Washington Post. I am watching the story with interest. Nathan Sproul is hardly an unknown name; he has been involved in skulduggery in past elections. But if this Republican consulting firm is allowed to get away with what it apparently did, it will be a veritable free-for-all against Democratic voters, and not just in Virginia.

It is said that Texas has the best politicians money can buy. In Virginia, they don't bother buying them; they just steal them. (Or at least the "elections" that choose them.)
