Obama: Reduce Deficit by $1 Trillion, Two-Thirds By Spending Cuts

The man is fucking nuts. I don't know any other way to put it. Spending cuts to essential government programs amounting to an average of $100 billion per year for 10 years, in a time of deep recession, are a good way to kill the economy altogether... not to mention leaving many American families homeless and starving.

And is O hoping for Republan approval? Gimme a break. Of course they don't approve. And a budget year starting in October gives the GOPers some time to pursue their own spending cuts. Did Obama hope they would back off if he proposed still deeper cuts? Well, I did say he was fucking nuts; maybe he did hope that.

I used to be a Democrat. Then I dropped out of the Party as they moved damned nearly to the right of the Republans, but I still mostly voted for Democrats. Now? Good question. Maybe it's time for me to stop voting... period. Based on all recent evidence, what good does it do?

  1. i have threatened to do the same. However, I also ascribe to that if you don't vote you lose your right to complain -- I'm NOT giving up my right to kvetch. It's difficult at best when your choice is between Tweedledum and Tweedledumber. The trick is figuring out which is which. :(

  2. Kay, you're assuming that voting has a real-world impact. You're also assuming that if more people vote for a candidate, that candidate assumes office.

George W. Bush's baldfaced theft of the presidency... yes, I am utterly convinced the 2000 presidential election was stolen, with the assistance of the Supreme Court... proved to me that all of us in the majority of voters who voted for Al Gore might as well have sat home. Elections are by now a pacifier for the electorate, not a means of choosing a leader.

And Obama has no intention of setting things right. "Move forward," he says, meaning that he is determined that any criminal behavior on the part of the Bush administration shall go unpunished. So in a way, voting for Obama in 2012 is voting for the concept that the elite are above the law; the law applies only to little people.

I have had it with voting for the lesser of two evils. For years I argued for the Democrats on just that basis, and look what it has gotten us. The lesser of two evils is still an evil... in this case, a deeply pernicious one... and IMHO the proper vote is "neither of the above." Enough is enough.
